Welcome!

Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) is a Department of Defense sponsored STEM program (U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense and the U.S. Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force) that is administered by the National Science Teaching Association, in cooperation with nationwide colleges and universities. The National office staff works collaboratively with these Service sponsors to direct the JSHS regional and national symposia and the collaborative effort between the research arm of the Department of Defense and nationwide colleges and universities, to manage the scholarship awards, and overall program oversight.

JSHS is committed to providing the mentoring, scholarship, and career pathways for young minds from everywhere to find success, growth, and connection in STEM. JSHS invites high school students to report on the results of their original research investigations in STEM and compete for scholarships and recognition at university-held regional symposia. All students in grades 9-12 enrolled in public, private, or home schools are eligible to participate in their local regional symposium. Please note that only students who are citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) of the United States can receive the scholarship. See Rules of Competition for eligibility details.

UConn Health is hosting the 2024 Connecticut JSHS, held on February 24, 2024, in Farmington, CT. The virtual oral and poster competition judging will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024. The non-competitive virtual STEM poster exhibition will be held February 18-23.

Up to 10 high school students and one teacher from each high school may participate by organizing a delegation and registering by DEADLINE EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 18 (11:59 pm Eastern). Homeschooled students are also encouraged to take part. There is no charge for participation. For more details, see the Symposium agenda
